BEER SERVER - orange county, CA
OVERVIEW
We are seeking a Beer Server to support the expansion of our craft brewery. This position reports directly to the District Manager and the candidate will be responsible for maintaining and operating the Gunwhale Tasting Room by serving beverages, stocking / selling merchandise, performing daily cleaning, and organizing in a friendly, upbeat manner. You will represent Gunwhale Ales as a brand ambassador through impeccable service to every customer both in the tasting room as well as at festivals and events when needed. Candidates must share Gunwhale's commitment to the utmost quality, creativity, safety, and business ethics. It requires a flexible schedule, including both weekdays and weekend shifts. It also includes shifts at both the taproom locations in Orange and in Costa Mesa.
DAY IN AND DAY OUT
-Greet and assist consumers and accounts as a representative of the brand, with the goal of creating regular customers
-Assess customer’s individual needs and interests in order to best recommend products (beer, beverages, merchandise)
-Properly pour and serve beer to consumers as trained
-Wash, sterilize, and stock glassware
-Ensure consistent stocking of kegs, merchandise, and products for sale to guests
-Execute sales transactions, exchanges, and refunds through our POS system
-Maintain responsibility for cash drawers, counting, and reporting while on shift.
-Reinforce and provide accountability for all cash handling processes including credit card, and record customer gratuities as required by law.
-Completely and accurately cash out
-Act as an expert in the Gunwhale brand and culture, knowledge of craft beer and its service, as well as have basic knowledge in retail sales.
-Must have an undeniable passion for beer and an eagerness to learn.
-Must have strong written and verbal communication skills.
-Interact in a friendly, energetic and professional manner with management, clients, and consumers in any setting
-Adhere to the employee manual and follow company practices including dress code
-Demonstrate flexibility in scheduling and assist as needed with ensuring all shifts are appropriately staffed
-Maintaining all safety and sanitation standards including, cleanliness of the tasting room area, back of bar, restroom, and public areas.
-Be a team player and able to interact with all levels within the organization
-Enforce all applicable alcohol laws and rules
-Adhere to and enforce all applicable local, state and federal laws, rules, and regulations
-Other tasks as needed
OCCASIONAL DUTIES
-Assist in implementation of beer dinners, pairings, events, and promotions
-Assist with set-up, attend, and break down all materials for festival and outside event
-Up to 20% travel time may be required for off-site scheduled event
-Be capable of spotting future opportunities for Gunwhale through consumer dialogue and event activation
DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
-Must be 21 years of age or older at the time of application
-Must be able to pass a post-offer, pre-employment background check
-Associate Degree or preferred
-Previous bartending or brewery tasting room experience preferred
-LEAD Certification preferred (must be able to complete course with ABC)
-Certified Beer Server via Cicerone preferred
-Working knowledge of cash handling, calculator skills, guest relations, register skills, cash outs and salesmanship
-Preferred knowledge of craft beer and/or brewing
-Able to maintain a professional appearance and demeanor
-Able and willing to work evenings, holidays and weekends
-Able to work independently and as a motivated team player
-Able to handle multiple tasks at one time efficiently and with an upbeat, friendly attitude in a fast paced environment
-Able to deal with intoxicated guests in a positive and safety minded manner
-Strong interpersonal skills and a love for meeting and interacting with people
-Thorough attention to detail and desire to take initiative
-Must adhere to company’s policies and procedures
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
-Able to stand, walk, and be on your feet for prolonged periods
-Able to read and follow written English instructions
-Able to regularly twist, turn, kneel, climb, stoop, bend, crawl, lift and carry supplies and equipment weighing up to 55 pounds using appropriate techniques and tools
-Able to safely navigate the tasting room and bar areas, including crowded spaces
-Able to maneuver packages of any weight above 75 pounds with appropriate equipment and/or assistance
-Able to work in a factory/production environment which may be loud, slick, humid, hot or cold
-Able to work in indoor and outdoor environments with moderate noise
-Able to comply with and enforce all health, safety, and personal hygiene policies and standards
